Porcupine Quills

Porcupines from South Africa are larger than Northern American porcupines, and some species have quills almost half the length of their body. The quills, which regrow after shedding, are shed naturally. The quills are collected by artisans to craft beautiful products such as OUTPOST ORIGINAL’S quill lamp shades. To make the shades, quills are painstakingly fastened together using copper wire, which creates a striking patterned effect from the reflected natural light and dark shading of the quills.
